Evacuation and Assembly Procedures

Everyone should evacuate a building if the fire alarm sounds or if a Building Emergency Coordinator (BEC) or the SPU-Alert system instructs building occupants to evacuate. In an evacuation, immediately gather your personal belongings and proceed to the nearest exit. Do not use the elevator.

Once you have evacuated the building, proceed to the applicable evacuation assembly area. Once you arrive, check in with your professor (if you were in class at the time of the evacuation) or with a BEC (in all other cases) so that they can take roll. BECs are recognizable by their bright orange vests.

Primary and backup evacuation assembly areas for campus buildings are listed below (backup locations should be used if primary locations are unavailable or unsafe).
